What is your experience in terms of working or friends with people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds?
-I have a few friends from different backgrounds (italian, spanish)
Do you have experience in working with ELLs?
-my brother when he was in high school, was reading at a 5th grade level and after a year of a facility, he was on track.
Do you have experience in teaching ELLs?
-i dont have any "real" exoerience teaching ELLs
What is your perception on ELLs in terms of their learning motivation and performance in general and in reading and writing specially?
i think they are motivated to learn but the struggle can be frustrating and easily can give up. They just need a push in the right direction and someone to solidify their achievements
What learning difficulties do ELLs usually encounter in schools?
-falling behind in reading, not being able to spell or pronounce words correctly or at a timely matter.
In your observation, how do classroom teachers resolve ELLs’ learning difficulties and improve their learning motivation? What strategies do they often adopt? Are these strategies effective? Are you familiar with these strategies? Are family and community involved? they susually have a teachers assistant be there to help guide struggling readers and writers and to help them achieve their goals without quitting or getting too frustrated
What intervention strategies would you adopt if you have ELLs in your class? How do you go about teaching the child? How do you go about reaching out to the family and the community?
you dont seclude the student at all. either work one on one with them or have them pair with someone close to their level -reach out to the family by having them try games or something to incorportate learning and to make it fun
